  In an old court record it is stated that the marriage of John Underhill, Jr. and Mary Prior is pronounced null and they are fined five pounds each for breach and contempt of the law and to pay ten pounds more if they shall not be legally married before the next court, which being neglected, they were fined ten pounds each. The marriage of John and Mary was according to good order in the Society of Friends, but contrary to the laws of the Colony, because of the omission of "priestly or civil official."
