  Forest Smith notes: "I found Zophar Case in the 1850 census for Clinton County, Ill. The son in question is Edward. He is listed in 1850, but not in the 1860 census (maybe just overlooked in the big family). Then he appears in 1870 living with parents. Then in 1880 find him married with a bunch of children.
