The death of Mrs. Sarah Ellen Halstead, of 66 Gisburn Road, Blacko, took place rather unexpectedly on Tuesday morning. The deceased lady, who was in her fifty-second year, had been ill for several weeks, and confined to her bed. When the news became known it occasioned deep regret. Of a quiet disposition, Mrs. Halstead had a pleasant manner, and motherly way making herself useful. Her home was an ever-open door, and many of the village lads will miss her kindly welcome. The funeral will take place to-morrow (Saturday) at Newchurch-in-Pendle. Her husband, Mr. Varley Halstead, died eight years ago. She leaves a grown-up son to mourn her loss.⁴
