I hung up the trousers produced having taken them from my box in the garret. I put them on the bed post. I saw no body in the bedroom. A man passed me while in bed about ten o'clock. The man went upstairs to bed. I first missed the trousers about six o'clock on Saturday night. They were my trousers, and are worth about £1. -Uttley Laycock, Pawnbroker, said the priisoner came to my shop on Saturday morning last. He brought the trousers produced. He pledged them for 3s. He said his name was William Sutcliffe. He did not say where he lived. He said the trousers were his own. I gave them to P.C. Pierce yesterday, - P.C.Pierce said he received the information of the robbery, and went to the shop of the last witness. I afterwards proceeded to Tormorden, where I received the prisoner into custody. charged him with stealing from the dwelling of Halstead Crossley one pair of trousers, value 20s., the property of Robert Harwood. He made no reply then, but afterwards said that he came to Burnley on Friday with 8s., but spent it, and did it to return home. - Prisoner said it was the first time he had come before them, and hoped they would do as well as they could for him. He was guilty, and wanted to be tried by the bencch - he was commited to prison for one month, with hard labour.8
