     Research Note: According to the 1911 census it states that they had had 17 children. I can trace 9 through the GRO BMD indexes so I can only assume that the remainder were still births.

Thomas married Sarah HALSTED, daughter of William HALSTEAD and Ann NUTTALL, on 2 June 1851 at St John the Evengalist, Worsthorne, Lancashire. He was a Mason of full age, a bachelor residing in Worsthorne. His father was listed as Joseph OATES, a Mason. according to the Rites and Ceremonies of the Established Church of England. The marriage was witnessed by John SAGAR and Ann HALSTEAD.2,3,1
