At Keighley yesterday. Denton Halstead, slater. Bradshaw, Halifax. was charged with breaking into the pawnshop of C. H. Be11, 17, South Street, Keighleyand stealing jewellery, and Mrs. Halstead and her daughter May (18) were charged with receiving stolen goods. Supt Slack said the shop was broken into between Saturday, July 19th and Monday, the 21st, and £73 17s worth of jewellery removed. on July 29th Mrs Halstead tried to pawn in a Bradford pawnshop a gold necklet and pendant. The daughter was outside at the time. Both were handed over to Detective-Supt. Watmuff, of the Bradford City Police. Both had jewellery in their possession. and this had been identified as stolen property. At their home jewellery was found ail over the house, and under the floor of a bedroom. Evidence as to articles being pawned was given and Frederick Mardon, manager of a Leeds firm of pawnbrokers, identified jewellery stolen from their Kirkstall Road shop in April, when £103 worth of stock was taken. When arrested Halstead said he had bought all the jewellery from a brother. Defendants were committed to the Sessions for trial, bail being accepted.5
Mary's death was registered in 1939 in the Huddersfield registration district.6
