241 | Ella Druscilla Hardesty was married at least four (4) times to this writer 's knowledge. The first marriage was to a W.B.(Bert) Way in Garnett, An derson County, Kansas. There were at least 4 children by this first marri age according to information passed down by a family member. However, p er census data I have only been able to find two of these children so the re is a possibility that they died young or there was an error in the pass ing down of family data. Census information follows. 1920 U.S. Census 06 January 1920 Salina City, Salina, Saline County, Kansas. Roll T625-548- Page 5A ED 143- Image-0207 Shinn, Alfred W., Head, Male, White, Age 44, Married, born Kansas, Fath er born West Virginia and Mother born West Virginia. Rose, Mary, step-daughter, Female, White, Age 12, Single, Father born Illi nois and Mother born Kansas. ---------------------------- 1930 U.S. Census 05 April 1930 District 32 Smoky Hill Township, Salina, Saline County, Kansas. Shinn, Alpheus W. Head,Owned home, $700.00 value, Didn't live on a farm, M ale, White, Age, 55, Married at Age 38, born Kansas, Father born West Virg inia and Mother born West Virginia. Ella D., Wife, Female, White, age 57 , Married at Age 40. Cross, Lloyd, son-in-law, Male, White, Age 33, Married at age 26 Born in K ansas, Father born United States and Mother born United States. Cross, Mary E. daughter, Female, White, Age 22 Married at age 15, bo rn in Kansas, Father born in Wisconsin and Mother born in Kansas. The second (2nd) marriage was to a John Hiram Rose. I estimate th is marriage took place around 1899 to 1900 due to the ages of children fou nd on the census. To date there has been four children found that were is sues from the second marriage. To date, I have been unable to locate a mar riage record for Ella and John H. Rose. I have looked in Allen, Anderson, Dickinson, Marion, Morris, Franklin and Saline counties with no result s. I shall continue searching for a marriage record. The third (3rd) m arriage was to a Alpheus Shinn. This marriage took place on 26 Septemb er 1914 in Salina, Saline County, Kansas and is on file in the Saline Coun ty Court House. The fourth (4th) marriage was to a ?? Howell, date and place unknown. Will continue to search for this recor d. To this writer's knowledge, there were no children from the thi rd or fourth marriage. It is stated by some great grandchildren of Ella's that she died in Salin a. I shall continue to pursue the search to find date and place of dea th for her. There is a possibility that she may have died in Missou ri as one point in time she reportedly lived with her daughter Mary and h er husband Lloyd Cross in that state. Ella is buried in the Lost Springs Cemetery, Lost Springs, Marion Count y, Kansas with her second husband, John H. Rose. They share a headsto ne , and all that is on it is their names and year of birth and deat h. I have made contact with the sexton Robert Bevan, of that cemete ry and he has no additional information in his records that might indica te day and month of birth for either individual, or when the stone was ere cted. Since the initial notes were written much information on Ella has co me to surface. In finding a great-grandson and great-granddaughter I ha ve been able to locate not only her obituary but a marriage record for t he 4th marriage. Copies of both of the documents are in my personal file s. See marriage information below. No. J48893 P.J. No. 9593 They were married in Salina, Saline County,Kansas on 03 May 1943 by Rev. J ohn L.
