[5] Rochdale Observer - SHAWFORTH AND MILLGATE. Anniversary Services. —Two sermons were preached in the Baptist Chapel, on Sunday last, by the Rev. W.G. Fifefield of Goodshaw, near Rawtenstall. A collection was made at the close of each service, in aid of the chapel, which realised upwards of j£B. The attendances were moderate.
Shawforth and Millgate Temperance Society. On Tuesday evening, a meeting was held in connection with the above society in the Baptist schoolroom, which was moderately well filled. Mr. Thomas Nuttall, of Shawforth, presided, and the meeting was afterwards addressed by Mr. James Emmott and Mr. Halstead Ogden. Recitations were given by members of the society, and melodies sung by Messrs. E. Homshaw and Walter Cockcroft, of Millgate. The usual votes of thanks brought the meeting to a close.
