    • "Dwight's records give the date of death as 1810. Richard Erd states after 1810. Elaine R. Halstead states 1814." [note from Ken Erd's gedcom] George Halstead's gedcom also gives the year as 1814. w/ note: " It appears that this Timothy died in Hamilton Co. OH, a least according to probated records. It also appears that he had at least two brothers, Samual and Peter, both signed records in OH.[Note: Samuel, Peter, James, and Timothy Jr. were sons of this Timothy] See notes for Timothy Halstead (1795). The records also referred to a James Halstead. It appears that Timothy's son Timothy (1795) moved to Henry Co., OH prior to the 1820 census."

Listed as a Grantor was a land sale in Dec 1812, and another in 1813, in which Timothy Halstead & wife Keziah sold land (listed as Scipio Land). I believe that Timothy and Keziah last lived in Cayuga Co before moving to Hamilton Co OH."

    • Mark R. Halstead e-mail: "I may have found a clue as to the identity of the first wife of James Halstead c1729-c1786. Seversmith says James had two wives, both daughters of Samuel and Elizabeth (Loorin) Teed. It is a long-standing dictum that the second was Elizabeth Teed, but the Christian name of the first wife eluded Dr. Seversmith. I found a volume of the records of the First Church of Huntington, L.I. 1723-1779, where the marriage of Samuel Teed and Elizabeth Loorin may be found (1734) as well as the baptisms of five or more possible children, including Elizabeth on 2 Nov 1740. This is significant, as I have seen many sources where Elizabeth Teed is said to have been born on 2 Nov 1740 in Corwall, Orange County, N.Y. This record refutes that, both in place and date.
      The really good news is, it appears that Samuel and Elizabeth (Loorin) Teed DID have a daughter, older than Elizabeth, and old enough to have married James Halstead around 1751: Phebe Teed was baptized 22 Feb 1735/6 (the same day as two others, who appear to be a twin brother Samuel and her mother Elizabeth), meaning that she would have been about 16 in 1751. Maybe we have found James' first wife -- and the ancestress to the older children of James -- at long last.
      It is also possible, from these records, to put together a proposed family for Samuel Teed, father of Elizabeth (Teed) Halstead. Records show three other Teeds -- Mary, Hannah, and Solomon -- all being married around the same time as our Samuel, so they may have been his siblings.
      I have written up a four page document containing the records and an analysis, which I will attach. If anyone out there has trouble reading it, I will copy it into an email directly for you. Oh, and just to confuse things more, note the marriage between a Teed and a LUM! (Hannah Teed m. Samuel Lum 1730.) Those Lums keep popping up everywhere.

      William Leon Halstead, author of "The Story of the Halsteads Of the United States" tells us on page 65: "Timothy Halstead [1752-1832?], son of James [1726-1786?], married about 1773 Keziah Teed and had six or seven children:..." and he continues listing five of the children and their birth years.

      Ken Erd e-mail 3 Aug 2000 "One of the major sticking points is the parents and wife of Timothy 1752. His father married his mother, who is unknown, in 1751, and then married again to Elizabeth Teed in 1763. Timothy's wife, Keziah Teed, has been assumed in the past to have been his step-mother's sister, but she may have been a step-cousin if Elizabeth had a previous marriage with children."

      Among marriage registrations for 1785 are three marriages which have no dates attached, but fall between a marriage on 26 Apr 1785 and 27 May 1785. One of those three marriages is:
      (no banns or Amos Halsted (no witnesses of Clifton Park
      wedding. dates) Martha Shepherd named) of Clifton Park

      From the section of the transcribed ledger for 1790:
      banns Feb. 24 John Teerpenning Jr. (no witnesses of Clifton Park
      marr. Mar. 4 Julianna Halsted named) of Clifton Park

      These are the only two marriage entries indexed for "Halstead, Halsted, etc."
      There were no entries for the surname Teed in the index.
      Even though no other Halsteads appeared in the index, I read through all of the marriages between 1750 and 1765 in this book, in hopes of finding one of the mysterious Halstead/ Teed weddings. No luck!
