Mrs. Alfred Halstead, 62, died at 5:45 a.m. Sunday at her home here on Maple Avenue following a four months' serious illness. She had been failing health for several months.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Roderick funeral home with the Rev. T.C. Nagler, pastor of the Methodist Church, officiating. Mrs. W.A. Dake sang "Lead Me Savior" and "Safe in the Arms of Jesus," accompanied by Mrs. C.W. Hazlett. Burial was made in Maple Hill cemetery with Mike Tobin, Charles Chantry, F.O. McKinney, Ed Waller, William Stewart and John Feldt as pall bearers.
Mrs. Halstead, formerly Miss Hattie Bidwell, was born November 16, 1878 in this locality.
She grew up and was educated here and was married to Mr. Halstead of Evansville in June, 1921 and they resided in this city since their marriage. She was a member of the Methodist church.
Besides her husband, the deceased is survived by a son by a former marriage, Leslie Ryan, Columbus, Ohio; three grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. William Helmick, LaPorte, Indiana; two brothers, Ernest Bidwell, this city and George Bidwell, Rockford, Ill., and a stepdaughter, Mrs. Loyd Schumacher, Chicago.
