    • The first certain knowledge we have of John White is as a p assenger in the ship Lyon, Captain Pierce, which sailed fro m London, England, about June 22, 1632, and arrived at Bost on, MA, on Sunday, September 16, following. ELDER JOHN WHI TE was born in England, time and place not known, but proba bly his borthpalce was near Chelmsford, about thirty mile s northeast of London, as that was the center of the minist ry of Thomas Hooker, with whom and whose church he was afte rward connected in America. He was married in England to M ary Levett and two or three of his children were born there. According to CD V726, above, John was granted land in Cambridge, MA in 1633, was a Selectman in Cambridge, MA in 1635 and in Hartford in 1642, founded settlement in Hadley, MA in 1659, represented Hadley, MA as Deputy to General Court in 1664 and 1669.
