On Tuesday, at the Bradford County Court, the Judge (Mr. Daniel, Q C ) stated in regard to the bankruptcy of Law Rooks Halstead, butter factor and provision merchant 42, Tennyson Place, Bradford, that he had a serious charge to make against the trustee of the estate, William North, of Huddersfield, accountant. North was appointed trustee in 1881, and the Comptroller in Bankruptcy had sent a report of correspondence whioh had passed between him and North, with a request that the court would deal with the matter. North not having performed his duty as trnstee, was written to by the Comptroller in December, and in reply he stated that he would attend to the matter before the expiration of the year. He did not do so however, and the Comptroller, having written on March 27th, 1882, renewing his previous request, received a letter asking him to "kindly let this matter remain over a few days. The oommittee of inspection reside at great distances from each other, and are difficult to be got together." On June 27th following North was again communicated with, and informed that unless "within 10 days you forward a certified copy of the estate book and the office copy of the bankrupt's statement of affairs, as required by section 55 of the Bankruptcy Act of 1869, and rule 247 of the Bankruptcy Rules, 1870, your default will be reported without further notice." The Comptroller received no reply to his last letter, and, therefore, requested the court to exercise its judgmeht, His Honour added that he had turned to the file of the proceedings, where the trustee gave as his reason for requesting the matter to stand over that the committee of inspection resided at great distances from each other, and he found that two of the oommittee lived at Brad- ford and one at Baildon. The trustee's statement was a misrepresentation, and an order would be made for his committal.⁷

On Wednesday last week, Thomas Halstead, of Knotts, mechanic, died from natural causes, and his relict proceeded to make arrangements for his funeral, which was fixed to take place on Saturday. On Friday evening she had occassion to go to Todmorden, and on her way home she called at her brother-in-law's at Limehouse, not feeling well. She has for some time been subject to fits, and soon after getting into the house she had an attack, but soon recovered; she decided to remain all night.but declined to go to bed, preferring to lay on the sofa; her sister-in-law stayed up with her till between two and three o'clock, and then she left her apparently comfortable and well. Early next morning on the family rising they found the poor woman dead; she did not show any signs of having had a fresh attack, and probably had died from the eflects of the one she had the previous evening. The circumstances were reported to the coroner, who did not consider it necessary to hold an inquest. The Intenment of the husband took place as arranged on Saturday; he was 44 years of age, and his wife 37 years. They had no children.¹³
