The firm of H. Halstead and Sons, wholesale newsagents, of 8, George-street, Nottingham, has suffered double bereavement in the past four months, two partners dying while serving in the Forces, but not as the result of enemy action.
In January Mr. Harry Halstead, aged 42, was killed as the result of an accident, through a bullet ricocheting, and on Tuesday Mr. Geoffrey A. Halstead, aged 39, whose home address is 36, Elm Avenue, and who was called up to the Army last year died suddenly.
At the inquest in Leeds this afternoon Dr. Hoyland Smith, a police surgeon, said deceased's condition could not have been disclosed by ordinary examination.
Halstead, it was stated, died from acclusion of the right coronary artery, with dilation of the heart, and the verdict was "Natural causes."
Mr. Herbert George Halstead, who gave evidence of identification, said his brother was formerly a newsagent, and they were in partnership together.
A soldier colleague of deceased said that at tea-time on Tuesday he passed Halstead, who was in a standing position. There was nothing to attract attention. He had his back to deceased but on turning round he saw he had collapsed.
The firm of Halstead was founded by the deceaseds' father, and his three sons succeeded him in the business.5 His estate was probated on 22 February 1945 at Nottingham, Nottinghamshire. The estate was valued at £3,605 19s 5d.3
