MONROE - The funeral will be held June 25 for Herbert H Halstead of Monroe, who died June 22 of age-related causes. He was 84.
Halstead was born Oct. 29, 1916, in Monroe to Thomas and Lily Drake Halstead. He married Elsie Cameron in Philomath.
He attended Monroe High School and two years of college . He was in the Army during World War II and served in the Pacific. He was a farrmer most of his life and worked as water superintendent for the city of Monroe until he retired.
He homesteaded near Tulelake, Calif. from 1947 to 1952 and live in Woodburn from 1952 until the early 1960s. He lived for a short time in Prineville before returning to Monroe in 1965.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, restoring vehicles and gadening. He was a charter member of the Monroe United Church of Christ and a member of Monroe Veterans of Foreign Wars post.
Survivors include his wife, a son Rex of Monroe, two daughters Holly Sparks of Alpine and Laura Ward of Junction City: a brother, John of Dallas, Ore; a sister Ruth Witham of Twin Falls, Idaho; and seven grandchildren. A son Hal, died previously.
Monday's service will be at 10 a.m. at Monroe United Church of Christ. Burial will be at Monroe Cemetery. McHenry Funeral Home in Corvallis is in charge of arrangements.⁴
