Lieut. Halstead, who was 34 and single, joined the Coldstream Guards in 1930, and served in Egypt before becoming a constable in the Bury Police Force four years later. Called up from the Reserve in December, 1939, he was commissioned in October of last year, and had been serving with the Royal Scots Regt. He joined the British Army of Liberation shortly after D-Dav.

Her husband had been cruel to her all her married life and she had taken proceedings against him previously. On: the 12th December her husband returned home drunk and turned them all out, threatening set the house on fire. Her husband had an Army pension of 28s per week and 8s. of that amount was for her and her two young children.
