The contracting parties were Mr. Henry Landless Smith, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. David Smith, Park Avenue, Burnley, and Miss Catherine Ruth, eldest daughter Mr, and Mrs. Levi Smith, of Moorlands," Glen View Road, Burnley. The officiating minister the was Rev. Edward Smith, of Sunderland, uncle of the bride.
The bride, who entered the church the arm of her father, was attired a perfectly plain robe of ivory satin. Her veil of Brussels net was long and full, and finished at the hem with a lover's knot. A caplike head-dress covered her hair, and was held in place by a bandeau of myrtle and orange buds. She carried a clump of golden Ophelia roses.
The bridesmaids were Miss Lucie Smith (sister of the bride), Miss H, Marv Smith, B.A. (sister the bridegroom), Miss Rene Jackson (cousin the bride), Miss Freda Parker (cousin), Melbourne. The bridesmaids' sleeveless chesses were of buttercup yellow georgette, made with tight-fitting bodices and long, full skirts, edged with lace of the same tone. They wore large picture hats of felt and tulle, with long gloves and shoes to match. They carried sheaves of yellow gladioli.
The bridegroom was attended his brother, Mr. Eric Smith, best man, and Mr.W G Parker (cousin of the bride), of Melbourne, and Mr John Heap (cousin of the bridegroom) were groomsmen.
The bride's mother was gowned om Channel blue, with a large hat of the same shade, and carried yellow carnations. The bridegroom's mother wore a beach dress, embroided in dull gold and flame. She wore a large hat of beach panne velvet, and carried pink Ophelia roses.
Mr James Armistead, Mus. Bac., officiated at the organ, and prior to the ceremony rendered selections from Wagner's "Meistersingers" and "Lohengrin" and "Grieg's "Peer Gynt". When the bride entered the church , Mr Armistead played the "Lohengrin" bridal chorus, and after the signing of the register the happy couple left the church to the strains of Mendelson's "Wedding March". During the service the hymns "O Perfect Love" and "Love Devine" were sung.
A reception was afterwards held in the Sion School, were luncheon was served by Mrs Furness, of the Sparrow Hawk Hotel.
The bridal couple were the recipients of many beautiful presents, and later left for their honeymoon in Cornwall. The bride's travelling ensemble was of nut brown, trimmed with Kolinsky, with a hat to tone. St Catherine 's Church was the scene of a fashionable wedding, uniting two prominent Burnley families and evoking considerable public interest, last Thursday morning. The bridegroom was Mr Eric Halstead Smith, younger son Mrs. and the late Mr. David Smith, 11, Park avenue, and the bride Miss Barbara Maud Creeke, youngest daughter of Mr. Herbert Buck Creeke, and the late Mrs. Creeke, of Brunshaw. The bridegroom, son of a former well-known local solicitor; is the junior partner of Messrs. Smith and Smith, solicitors, of Elizabeth Street, and the bride's father is head of Messrs. Creeke and Son, solicitors, Manchester Road. The bride has been a member of the teaching profession, being on the staff of Todmorden Road Junior School. The Rev. H. Battye, Vicar of St Catherine's Church, conducted the ceremony, assisted by the curate, the Rev. G A B Lee.
Given away by her father, the bride was beautifully attired in an ivoyr phantom satin gown, cut on mediaeval lines, with train lined shell pink and attached to the gown at the waist with a butterfly bow. Her head-dress was of French orange blossom and her veil was of net trimmed with organidie roses. She carried a bouquet of carnations, lilies of the valley and white heather, and was attended by four bridesmaids, miss Ivor Cook (friend of the bride, of Swindon), Miss Hilda Mary B. A, (sister of the bridegroom) Miss Connie Wilding (friend of the bride), and Miss Sophie Ashworth (cousin of the bridegroom). Ail the bridesmaids were similarly attired in nil green floral georgette-trimmed with organdie, with picture hats to match, and each carried a muff covered with sweet peas and lilies the valley.
The mother the bridegroom was gowned in black chiffon velvet, and wore a hat to match trimmed jade ornaments. She carried a bouquet golden Ophelia roses.
The duties of best man were discharged by Mr. Frank Butterfield (friend of the bridegroom), and Messrs. Henry L. Smith (brother of the bridegroom), Anthony B. Creeke (brother of the bride), and Clifford Holmes (friend of the bridegroom) acted as groomsmen,

Bac., presided at the organ, a reception was held at Nelson House, and the happy couple later left by road for their honeymoon in the South of England. Bridesmaids were misses Jean and Erica Smith (daughters of the bridegroom) and they were dressed in pretty floral frocks, and carried Victorian posies. Mt Henry L Smith (brother of the bridegroom) was best man.

St Catherine 's Church was the scene of a fashionable wedding, uniting two prominent Burnley families and evoking considerable public interest, last Thursday morning. The bridegroom was Mr Eric Halstead Smith, younger son Mrs. and the late Mr. David Smith, 11, Park avenue, and the bride Miss Barbara Maud Creeke, youngest daughter of Mr. Herbert Buck Creeke, and the late Mrs. Creeke, of Brunshaw. The bridegroom, son of a former well-known local solicitor; is the junior partner of Messrs. Smith and Smith, solicitors, of Elizabeth Street, and the bride's father is head of Messrs. Creeke and Son, solicitors, Manchester Road. The bride has been a member of the teaching profession, being on the staff of Todmorden Road Junior School. The Rev. H. Battye, Vicar of St Catherine's Church, conducted the ceremony, assisted by the curate, the Rev. G A B Lee.
Given away by her father, the bride was beautifully attired in an ivoyr phantom satin gown, cut on mediaeval lines, with train lined shell pink and attached to the gown at the waist with a butterfly bow. Her head-dress was of French orange blossom and her veil was of net trimmed with organidie roses. She carried a bouquet of carnations, lilies of the valley and white heather, and was attended by four bridesmaids, miss Ivor Cook (friend of the bride, of Swindon), Miss Hilda Mary B. A, (sister of the bridegroom) Miss Connie Wilding (friend of the bride), and Miss Sophie Ashworth (cousin of the bridegroom). Ail the bridesmaids were similarly attired in nil green floral georgette-trimmed with organdie, with picture hats to match, and each carried a muff covered with sweet peas and lilies the valley.
The mother the bridegroom was gowned in black chiffon velvet, and wore a hat to match trimmed jade ornaments. She carried a bouquet golden Ophelia roses.
The duties of best man were discharged by Mr. Frank Butterfield (friend of the bridegroom), and Messrs. Henry L. Smith (brother of the bridegroom), Anthony B. Creeke (brother of the bride), and Clifford Holmes (friend of the bridegroom) acted as groomsmen,
Following the ceremony, during which Mr. James Armistead, Mus. Bac., presided at the organ, a reception was held at Nelson House, and the happy couple later left by road for their honeymoon in the South of England. The bride travelled in a dress of metal green floral ninon, with myrtle green coat trimmed with brown squirrel fug, and wore bat to match.
Upon their return, Mr. and Mrs.E. H. His parents formerly resided in Oldham, and left for Africa about thirty years ago.
Miss Smith, who appeared with the Lancashire hockey team for two seasons, has been a prominent member of the Burnley Golf Club, and has also been identified with Sion Baptist Church. After taking her degree, she entered the teaching profession, teaching at Wimbledon, and later at Rochdale Secondary Schools. Some months ago she was appointed to a position the Barrow-in- Furness Secondary School. She left England to be married about five weeks ago.1
