Edmund Halstead, J.P , the chairman of the Governors of the Victoria Hospital, Burnley, was married on Thuraday morning, at the Church of St. Mary's, Spring Grove, near Isleworth (London), to Miss Emma Prydderch Williams, of California, whom he met on his recent world cruise.
The wedding was a yery quiet one, being attended only by a few personal friends. Mr. Halstead arrived at the church just before eleven, accompanied by his nephew, Mr. Alfred Nelson Halstead, son of Mr. R. Halstead, of Burnley, Punctually at eleven the bride, wearing a black satin coat and hat, arrived with Mrs. Prydderch Williams, who is her aunt by marriage, and with whom she has been staying for the past few weeks at Myfyrion. London-road, Osterley, and her cousin, Mrs. Ashby. The family is a Quaker one.
The Vicar of St. Mary's, the Rev. H. W. Weatherhead, officiated the ceremony, and after a family luncheon party at the Victoria Hotel, Mr. and Mrs. Halstead left for Bournemouth. where they are spending a few weeks preparatory settling down in Burnley.2 She was listed in the 1939Register taken on 29 September 1939 at 319 Colne Road, Burnley, Lancashire, England. The Radcliffe is the premier teaching hospital of Oxford Universitv Medical School. Dr. Smith was head boy at Burnlev Grammar School in 1937. He proceeded to Manchester University where he graduated M.B., Ch.B., M.R.C.S., L.R.C.P., in 1943.
After a period in Bootle General Hospital as house surgeon, he served on the Continent and in East Africa as Captain R.A.M.C., during the Second World War. Since the war he has held appointments as demonstrator in anatomy, Manchester University, House Surgeon, Manchester Royal Infirmary, usrgical tutor at Lister House, Manchester Royal Infirmary: house surgeon Altrincham Hospital and surgical registrar at Ancoats Hospital.
In May 1852 Dr. Smith was successful in gaining the high distinction of F.R.C.S. London. He will take up his new duties at Oxford on January 1st.4

A link with Burnley and Nelson of the past has just been broken, by the death, on Saturday last, after a long and distressing illness, the Countess Sabatini Bonafede. The deceased lady was a member of one the best known families in the district, being the eldest daughter of the late Colonel Every-Clayton, of Carr Hall, Nelson, and her death, which took place at the advanced age of 78 years, occurred at her residence, the Villa Sanminiatelli, Florence. She will be remembered by very few people now, for on her marriage at the age of 21 years in 1856 she went to live in Italy, and has remained there ever since. Her husband was General Sabatini Bonafede, of the Italian Army, who was stationed at the Burnley Barracks during the years 1854 and 1855.3
