Shetland Islands, on the 16th December 1906 Rewards amounting to £1,283 were granted for services rendered by the lifeboats of the Institution during the past month, and awards were also made to the crews of shoreboats for saving life. Since Ist January this year, the Institution has voted rewards for saving 252 lives, and during the same period the lifeboats have been launched the aid of tessels in distress on no less than 101 occasions. Payment, amounting to £3.233 were ordered to be made in connection with the lifeboat establishment, of the Institution. Among the contributions recently received were £150 from the Executors of the late Mr. Alfred Beit.£100 from Miss C. Hutchinson (additional): £25 in memory of Mrs Rosetta Hallenstein, from her children, Harold, Florence and Edgar Hallenstein, per Mr. Ernest M. Hallenstein; etc.4

Mr Halsted was born 68 years ago and educated in London, to come to the Dominion in 1896. However, he later returned to London to commence his business career in the London office of the D.1.C., a company of which he was destined to become general manager and director in 1904. He also became a shareholder and director in Hallenstein Bros, when that business was formed into a limited company. The late Mr Halsted was married in 1901, but he lias been a widower since 1928. There were two daughters of the marriage, one of whom married. Mr Maurice Myers. The other daughter resides in Melbourne. Mr Halsted has been closely connected with many business organisations, such as the Warehousemen's Association, the New Zealand Federated Drapers' Association, and Chambers of Commerce, while he was also a director of the New Zealand and South Seas Exhibition. The late Mr Halsted was widely known for his interest in art, and was a member of the Dunedin Art Gallery. During a visit to Britain he purchased a number of pictures for the Public Art Gallery. He was also a member of a group known as the Friends of the Museum, whose aim was to further the progress and development of this public establishment, and from time to time gave some very valuable specimens to its collections, principally of the Malay Archipelago. A public-spirited man, he gave liberally all his life to all public collections.4 His estate was probated on 6 December 1943 at Llandudno, Conway, Wales.
