Obituary of Harry Warner FARNALL: on 6 June 1891 at Auckland, New Zealand, DEATH OF MR H. W. FARNALL.
A telegram was received this morning stating that Mr Harry W. Farnali died suddenly last night at Okoroire. The deceased was a native of the north of Ireland, and first came to this colony about 30 years ago, and was at that time possessed of considerable means. He took an active interest in politics, and represented Rodney in the General Assembly for some years, having settled on a farm at the Wade. Subsequently he was appointed emigration agent by Sir Julius Vogel, but upon arriving in London he found that Dr. Feathorstone, the then Agent-General for this colony, refused to recognise him, claiming that the appointment should not be made in the colony, but rested with himself. Mr Farnall, however, entered upon his duties all the same, and proceeded to the North of Ireland, and it was through his exertions that Mr Vosey Stewart brought out the Katikati settlers. After remaining some time in the old country, Mr Farnail returned to New Zealand about 1875, and identified himself with the labouring classes, having been always a consistent Liberal. Some time ago he wrote a pamphlet entitled "The Industrial Depression in New Zealand, its cause and its only cure," a work which attracted notice, the deceased being a gentleman of considerable literary attainments. Mr Farnali has for years advocated tho Anglo-Israel theory. He also took an active part in the formation of the local branch of tho Knights of Labour, and was for years Secretary of the Auckland Trades and Labour Council. Several times he has made futile efforts to again become a member of the House, being defeated some years ago at Waibemata, and more recently at tho city election winch he contested at the last election. For some time Mr Farnali conducted the " Watchman," a paper that was started to advocate the cause of the masses. He has also been engaged in various other journalistic ventures.
