John Campbell GALLOWAY

#33370, b. 5 December 1871, d. 12 March 1940
John Campbell GALLOWAY was born on 5 December 1871 at Alyth, Perthshire, Scotland. He travelled to Durban, Natal, South Africa, on 29 April 1938. From Southampton, England.1 He and Emily May EVERY-CLAYTON Found in the Ancestry tree by JeveryC
A random online search of the Family Search website (www.familysearch.org) for entries with my family name, Every-Clayton, disclosed a South African marriage with a photo of the actual record. The story behind this event appears to be a short shipboard romance. Emily May Tooze was the second wife and widow of Edward Every Every-Clayton who died 12 Jun 1936. They had one son, Frederick Oswald, who died at a young age two years later on 30 Mar 1938, leaving Emily alone in the world. A month after the death of her son, Emily boarded the SS Capetown Castle with a destination of Durban, South Africa. Also traveling on the ship was a retired gentleman from Scotland, John Campbell Galloway. Both of their names appear on the ship's passenger list and there is indication they might have known each other before booking passage. They married soon after meeting, on 20 Jun 1938 as shown in the referenced document. John died two years later in Meigle, Perth, Scotland. Have yet to discover what happened to Emily.
John married Emily May EVERY-CLAYTON on 20 June 1938 at St Paul, Durban, Natal, South Africa. He was retired aged 66, a widower residing at 18 Avon Crescent, Durban North.
John died on 12 March 1940 at Meigle, Perthshire, Scotland, at the age of 68.2
