A verdict of " Accidental death " was returned by the Burnley Coronor (Mr. Harry Ogden), at an inquest in the Town Hall on Friday, on Mrs. Margaret Renard (73), of 12, Carleton Street, Nelson, who died in the Burnley Municipal Hospital last Wednesday.
Edith Annie Oddie said her mother, who had resided with her, had been a fairly active and healthy person until about a month ago. Witness was out one day, and when she retained her mother stated that when pulling down a blind she had caught her left leg on the edge of a buffet. There was a slight abrasion, and witness, who treated it, did not consider it serious. On October 16th her mother stated that the leg was painful. It was inflamed, and Dr. Clegg was called in. The condition became worse, and the foot became affected. On October 25th her mother was removed to the Burnley Municipal Hospital, where she died on November Bth.
Returning his verdict, the Coroner stated that Dr.. Duff, of the Municipal Hospital staff, bad certified death to be due to toxic myocarditis and cellulitis due to a wound in the leg which was infected.4
