The day being an ideal spring one, the ceremony was held in the pretty garden. The bride, who looked charming and was given away by her father, wore cream satin "with silk net overdress, accordeon pleated, with cascades of silver lace on each side of the skirt, the bodice trimmed with beautiful old lace, which had been worn by her grandmother. A lovely old lace veil, arranged off the face, with a wreath of orange blossom, fell in graceful folds and formed a train. She carried a lovely shower bouquet, and wore a diamond pendant, the gift of the bridegroom. She was attended by three bridesmaids-the Misses Margaret Halsted (sister of the bride), Doris Friedlander (sister of the bridegroom), and Ngaira Smith. They looked sweet in pale pink taffeta silk dresses with overdresses of accordeon pleated georgette), embroidered in silver. In their hair they wore wreaths of tiny pale pink rosebuds with tulle choux; they carried pale pink sweet pea shower bouquets, which, with pretty gold circlet brooches, were the gifts of the bridegroom. Mr Eric Friedlander (cousin of the bridegroom) acted as best man, and Messrs Frank Halsted and Stanley Caro were groomsmen. The bride's mother wore a maize-coloured silk stockinette coat frock trimmed with saxe blue wool, a smart gold tissue hat with coloured berries, and carried a shower bouquet of daffodils and hyacinths. The bridegroom's mother wore navy blue silk coat and skirt, blue georgette hat trimmed with raffia, and carried a pretty bouquet of shaded wallflowers. Mrs D. Jean married Edward Kirby HALSTEAD, son of Regiment Kirby Dines HALSTEAD and Ivy Geddes McNAB, on 18 February 1936 at St Mary, Omakau, New Zealand.1,2

HALSTEAD-SCOULAR.
A very picturesque wedding took place last evening at 6 o'clock, at the little Anglican Church of St. Mary, Omakau, when Jean Isobel, eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs A. C. Scoular, Matakanui station, Central Otago, was married to Edward Kirby Halstead, of Ranfurly, elder son of Mr R. D. Halstead, of Roslyn, Dunedin.
The Rev. S. Hurd performed the ceremony, and Mrs Lester presided at the organ.
The bride looked charming as she entered the church with her father. She wore an exquisite gown of heavy cream leaf-patterned lace. The neckline was high, of gathered net above a lower circlet of cream velvet gardenias. The bodice was finished with a row of velvet buttons at the back, and the long, tight-fitting sleeves fell over the hands. The skirt was fully flared below the knees and fell into a long, graceful train. Her veil of Brussels lace also fell into a train, and was held in place by a halo of cream velvet gardenias. A bouquet of cream roses completed the picture.
She was attended by her two sisters, the Misses Nancy and Eily Scoular, as bridesmaids, and by Miss Lesley Scoular as flower girl. The maids were frocked alike in cream lace to match the bride. The bodices had an off-the-shoulder effect, and were finished by red roses at the corsage. They wore lace halos on their hair and carried bouquets of red roses. The flower girl wore a picture frock of soft cream georgette, with a tight bodice with puffed sleeves, and a skirt gathered from the waistline.
The bridegroom was attended by his brother, Mr Charles Halstead, of Dunedin, as best man, and by Mr G. Cunningham, of Ranfurly, as groomsman. The ushers were Mr Peter Scoular and Mr A. M'Millan.
The guests motored from the church to the homestead at Matakanui, where a reception and wedding breakfast were held.
The house and church were beautifully decorated -masses of gladioli, tulips, and asters making a lovely background for the bridal party.
Mrs Scoular (the bride's mother) wore a becoming gown of black ring velvet with a black velvet hat and silver fox furs, and carried a bouquet of red carnations. Mrs R. D. Halstead's frock was of black lace, with a black hat, black and gold cape, and a contrasting bouquet of red carnations.
Later in the evening a dance was held in the Omakau Hall, at which there was a large number of guests.
For travelling the bride wore a smart navy frock with buttons and buckle of silver, with navy hat and shoes and accessories to tone. The future home of Mr and Mrs E. K. Halstead will be in Greymouth.
Among the Dunedin guests at the wedding were Mr. and Mrs W. J. Crawford, Mr and Mrs. Vivian. Jacobs, Mr and Mrs Arthur Barnett, Mrs E. Glendinning, Mrs S. O. Battersby, Miss E. Roberts, and Mr A. Andrews; also Mr. and Mrs W. Scaife (Wanaka), Dr and Mrs Scrymgeour (Lauder), Dr Eudy (Ranfurly), Mr and Mrs W. B. Scoular, Mr John Faulks (Pembroke), Mr. and Mrs Hedley (Duntroon), and Mr and Mrs Irvine (Oamaru).2

M'Millan.
