Wife's vain rush to bedroom
The inquest took place in Brierfield Town Hall last Friday, and the Deputy Coroner (Mr H E Davies) returned a verdict of "Accidental Death"
Amelia Foster stated that her husband had enjoyed good health until three years ago, when he retired from work suffering from heart trouble; and he was medically attended for that complaint. She left the house last Tuesday, and her husband at that time was washing himself in the scullery. On returning tem minutes later she found him lying on the floorin the scullery near the slopstone. She asked him what had happened, but at that time he was unable to speak. A short time later he said he had fallen. Witness sent for a doctor, who after examining him, placed some straps round his ribs and chest. He was again medically attended the folliwing day. Witness went to bed about ten o'clock, leaving her son sitting up with her husband. At that time her husband was breathing very heavily. About six o'clock next morning she went about her housework until her son called out that he thought his father was dying. She rushed into the bedroom and fount that he had died.
Dr Skinner said Foster had been suffering from heart trouble, and had been attended regularly since 1934. On December 21st was told that the man had a fall in the kitchen of his home, and on going there he found that he had sustained fractures at the eigth and nith ribs on the left side. In addition, there were abrasions to the scalp and body, and there was a certain amount of shock.7
